As you get ready to hit the snowmobile trails this winter, make sure you have the right gear. Not only will this ensure you’re comfortable, but it will also keep you safe while you’re out exploring. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, it’s always a good idea to brush up on your knowledge of snowmobile gear. The team at Nielsen Enterprises is here to help. We’ve rounded up some options for you to consider.

Layers

Before you get carried away shopping for specific gear items, it’s important to understand the power of wearing layers. When you’re riding a snowmobile, your body temperature fluctuates. Layering up allows you the option of adding and removing garments as needed.

It might be extremely cold first thing in the morning, but it will likely warm up by early afternoon. Remember that when you’re not dressed warm enough in extreme conditions, you’re in danger of developing hypothermia and frostbite.

Riding Apparel

Next, consider investing in snowmobile riding apparel. This type of gear will provide excellent protection against the elements. What’s more, there will be no gaps in coverage when you buy a one-piece riding suit. However, it can be difficult to use the bathroom when wearing one of these. Some snowmobile riders want to land somewhere in the middle. If that’s you, you’ll want to consider a bib that extends further up the torso and past the edge of your riding jacket.

Protective Helmet

We’d be remiss not to mention the importance of a snowmobile helmet. The best option is one that offers full-face protection. This means your entire head and face will be protected. You’ll also be protected against frostbite when wearing a full-face helmet. You want a snug fit, but you don’t want it to be so tight that it pinches or causes pain. Your snowmobile helmet shouldn’t be so loose that it slides around when you wiggle your head.

Boots & Gloves

You’ll want to protect your hands and feet when you ride your snowmobile, too. Be sure to invest in a high-quality pair of boots and gloves. When you shop for boots, look for a pair that extends partially up your leg to prevent snow from getting inside. A pair of waterproof gloves that will protect your hands against harsh winds will do the trick.

Eye Protection

Don’t forget to protect your eyes. Ice crystals in the air can be harmful to your eyes. You’ll also need to be cautious when dealing with the glare from the blinding snow. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to protect your eyes when you ride your snowmobile. For instance, you can invest in a pair of polarized sunglasses to go with your goggles.
