Our Story
Ted Nielsen founded Nielsen Enterprises in 1969 in a converted gas station, launching the business as an Arctic Cat snowmobile dealer. Nielsen continued to build the business adding other major manufacturers such as Kawasaki, Polaris, Yamaha, BRP, Honda, and Suzuki throughout the years as well as multiple different product lines in addition to snowmobiles.
In 1982, Nielsen co-launched Lakewood Sportswear, which was the first aftermarket clothing brand directed at the snowmobile industry, pioneering the way for many other brands that would be launched in the years to come.
In addition to running the dealership, Nielsen also owned an independent race team, working his way up to be one of the most decorated independent race team owners in the sport, most notably winning the World Championship in 1984 with Jim Dimmerman battling to victory on the Nielsen Enterprises Phantom.
While our beginnings were humble, we’ve grown into the Midwest’s largest recreational dealer spanning two locations, thousands of square feet, and approximately 80 employees. Nielsen Enterprises continues to be a family-owned business with Ted Nielsen, his daughter Christie Nielsen, and his son Jeff Nielsen at the helm on a daily basis.
